The United Nations
​Standing on the eastern shore of Manhattan Island, on the banks of New York City’s East River, United Nations Headquarters remains both a symbol of peace and a beacon of hope. To its 18 acres come representatives of the earth’s six billion people, to discuss and decide issues of peace, justice and economic and social well being.
Every year, over 1 million visitors from around the world enter the Visitors Centre, located on 1st Avenue, between 45th and 46th Street.
Visitors can experience special exhibits in the Visitors Lobby galleries or just visit the UN Bookshop, the Gift Shop, the United Nations Postal Administration Sales Counter, or the Inquiries Desk for free handouts, such as posters, brochures, or resources for educators and students.
Many visitors take one of the daily guided or audio tours, or reserve a lecture led by a United Nations staff member who is an expert in his/her field and can provide an in-depth look on a variety of topics organized for groups of 20 or more.

The United Nations Foundation and the United Nations Association of the USA will celebrate the important work of the UN, the U.S.'s key support and the inspirational leaders who are working to advance peace, prosperity and justice here in the United States and throughout the world at our annual Global Leadership Dinner on October 16, 2012 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.
Annually one of the most impactful events in New York, the Global Leadership Dinner brings together a distinguished audience like no other, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UN Foundation Chairman Ted Turner.
